Scam checklist
Remote job fraud tends to follow the same pattern. Treat any of these as a red flag:
- You’re asked to pay — for training, a starter kit, software, a background check or an “admin fee”. Genuine employers pay you, not the other way round.
- The hiring is suspiciously fast — an offer after a brief text chat, with no proper interview.
- They want sensitive data early — bank logins, full ID scans or tax numbers before any written offer.
- They send you money to pass on — a cheque “for equipment” that you’re asked to forward elsewhere. It will bounce, and you’ll carry the loss.
- The sender doesn’t add up — a free webmail address instead of a company domain, or a company with no footprint outside the listing.
